Why Should I Work with an Intern?
We at Gifted Together are really excited to bring on two interns this last summer. Our interns are graduate students who have completed necessary coursework, and are now in their clinical experience portion of education while they finish classes. They are set to graduate in June.
One of the primary benefits that we see in bringing on interns is the ability to serve more families who have been waiting for openings. The need is high and we have not been able to meet it on our own! It also allows us to offer services at a price point that can be more accessible for some.
But, there are some other really compelling reasons why working with an intern can be a great experience.
Enthusiasm and Energy
Interns bring new energy where some of us can get into predictable habits and routines. They are ready and excited to put their knowledge into practice and help their clients experience meaningful change.Updated Knowledge Base
They are receiving the most current training and education in their field.In-depth Support
Interns receive ample supervision from us at Gifted Together as well as from their graduate program. This gives them access to the perspectives of multiple seasoned professionals when working with their clients as well. They are not on their own.Curiosity
When things are new, we’re less likely to make assumptions and it becomes easier to come to the therapeutic relationship with openness and curiosity. All therapists do their best to hold this perspective, but interns have more of a blank slate to work with.Smaller Case Load
Finally, interns see a smaller number of clients than most therapists do, allowing them to give more focused attention to each person on their case load.
We at Gifted Together are incredibly excited for the possibilities that our new interns will create for us as a group. If you have more questions about how seeing an intern would work, let us know!
